Its actually day 6 but I didn’t write my blog last night so I’m doing yesterdays this morning. Yesterday was a real busy day, I took my daughter out for her birthday. I drank a shake before we left. About two hours later I ate the first solid thing I ate all week, and I decided it was part of my solid meal because I would be eating again in about an hour, so it was kind of to pre-lube things and get them ready. What I ate was a quiche. I think that is good food. An hour later we went to the restaurant and I ordered grilled chicken breast and broccoli. It came with mashed potatoes, so i asked them to replace the potatoes with more broccoli.

When I started eating the quiche I wasn’t all that impressed. I had read blogs about how amazing the first tastes of solid food were after not eating for a while. So I was a bit disappointing. Well, first came my very tiny garden salad which had lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, croutons, some shredded cheese, and Italian dressing (it also came with a roll). I picked off the croutons and gave the role to my daughter. mixed up the rest and took a bite. And I was in instant shock. I immediately pulled the onion out of my mouth and proceeded to take all the onions out of the salad. I guess, for now, I don’t like onions anymore.

The taste of the onions was so amazingly strong it was a shock to me. But I also realized that I didn’t really like it either. I’m a guy who eats just about anything normally. I eat spicy food, I eat onions, I eat garlic (and I can load the garlic on too). So the fact that I didn’t like the onions is no small change.

After picking out the onions I continued eating the salad. It tasted pretty good for a salad. Normally when I eat salad I pretty much just taste the dressing, but I tasted everything. The cheese, the tomatoes, the cucumbers, and even the lettuce (yep it has a taste).

Then they set down my chicken breast with a bed of broccoli. I started off with a piece of broccoli which might have been a mistake. It was the most amazing piece of broccoli I had ever had in my life. It was actually kind of sweet tasting. Normally I can eat some cooked broccoli but it is much easier if it has cheese with it, but I just kept eating the broccoli. And enjoying every second of it.

Let me clarify when I say eating. In the Marine Corps I learned to wolf down some food. I became the fastest eater I know. I could finish a footlong sub in under a minute, and keep in mind I do it without actually trying, I’m not actually racing to eat that fast it just became something I did. The only point in chewing was to get the food into a shape it would pass down my throat without getting stuck. If that took no bits, I didn’t chew. If it took two bites to form it right that’s what the food got. But not today. Today I was chewing. I was loving every single chew. The taste was amazing.

after eating about two thirds of the broccoli I moved on to the chicken breast and had similar results. It was also amazing. I pretty plain grilled chicken breast with some light seasoning and no sauces was amazing. The problem was that I was already full when I started eating it. I forced myself to eat about 3/4 of what was (maybe) a 6 oz chicken breast (it was probably close to 4 it was pretty tiny). I felt like I was going to burst and set the fork down. They brought my daughters $6 ice cream brownie thing, she ate the cherry and a few bites of the brownie. And we went to the movie.

When the movie got over I stopped at GNC and got a $5 bottle of isopure protein. If you don’t know what that is, neither did I. It’s a $5 bottle of 40 grams of protein. No carbs, no fat. Just liquid friggen protein. It’s pretty amazing except the fact it is made with sucrolose. Which is poison. But I needed some protein.

Then last night my mom called and asked if my older daughter could stay at her house. I had to bring her, and she offered to take both daughters out to eat here at the local fry em up burger place since its under new ownership. I said ok and went with them. Checked out the menu and they had a grilled chicken salad. This would be the part where I kind of stumbled on the V-Diet. I ordered it. the menu said it had lettuce tomatoes cheese and grilled chicken. Well there were no tomatoes. And there was a LOT of cheese. But the grilled chicken was good. It also came in an edible cracker/bread, bowl. i of course did not eat the bread bowl thingy. But I had an extra meal I wasn’t supposed to have (or two it you count the quiche).

Whatever. I’m not sweating it. I don’t think I did anything crazy, I didn’t eat a cookie, or drink a soda. i had an extra salad with some cheese in it. Did I follow the V-Diet to the T? Nope. But I’m not really doing that anyway, since I didn’t buy $600 worth of the supplements I was supposed to buy anyway. It’s my own thing. I’m back on protein shakes with some nut butter and flax for the next 6 days. Yes my weight was up a little this morning. It doesn’t even phase me. I’m still down like 5 lbs in 5 days.

Going up to see Battle L.A. with my bro and the older girls today. They are going to eat at burger king or something. I’m gunna drink protein. 200 lbs here I come :)

Really interesting blog entry Jay. I have never experienced such a period of time without solid food but it sure seems to have made an impression on your taste buds.

Your choices made sense. There is no doubt that you will lose weight over this month and get the kick in the ass start back up that you need.

    Stay strong,

    Terry
